Brazilian Movie: Cidade de Deus (City of God)
Cidade de Deus (City of God) is a housing project built in the 1960's that--in the early 80's--became one of the most dangerous places in Rio de Janeiro. The tale tells the stories of many characters whose lives sometimes intersect. However, all is seen through the eyes of a singular narrator: Busca-Pé, a poor black youth too frail and scared to become an outlaw but also to smart to be content with underpaid, menial jobs. He grows up in a very violent environment. The odds are all against him. But Busca-Pé soon discovers that he can see reality differently than others. His redemption is that he's been given an artist's point of view as a keen-eyed photographer. As Busca-Pé is not the real protagonist of the film--only the narrator--he is not the one who makes the decisions that will determine the sequence of events. Nevertheless, not only his life is attached to what happens in the story, but it is also through Busca-Pé's perspective of life that one can understand the complicated layers and humanity of a world, apparently condemned to endless violence.

The same old history
The richs countries love pictures that show the poverty and violence os poor countries. And the porr countries love to show your poverty to richs countries. Please, Brazil, stop make films to show misery and violence to developed countries to delight. Developes countries may be sadic, but Brazil are worst: make films show your misery (when have beautiful things to show) only to win a Oscar. Arghhh, Brazil, stop with its trash movies.

Anyone who really knows Brazil, off the Carnival season, knows very well that the reality is different, especially in Rio de Janeiro, where most movies are made.
These films show the reality of Brazil, nothing else than the truth.
The glamorous Brazil you would like to see in movies, involves the natural beauty, for sure. And this, Brazil is rich ... more than some first world powers.
But why make a movie showing only the natural beauty of the country, that anyone has access to the Internet, and to hide the real violence and poverty that exists in Rio's favelas?
That would be disrespectful to viewers from other countries who think that Brazil are the only natural beauty and happines, when in truth, he should be aware that there is a ugly and violent side of the story, so real, as its natural beauty.
This is a old comment, hope you've changed your opinion, and has watched other recent films, especially Tropa de Elite (Elite Squad) 1 and 2, which talks about the day-by-day of Rio de Janeiro and the public security system, and how work the brazilian system politics, in the most real and true!
By the way, I am Brazilian, that's why my english is bad, and I'm living in another country, because unfortunately I was tired of violence, corruption in government and the injustices in my own country, featured in several Brazilian films, what do you believe they were made just to win an Oscar!
