Brazil's Os Mutantes to tour America
The Brazilian psychedelic rock band Os Mutantes recently reunited and has plans to travel the United States.
The band, named after a science fiction novel, was set to make its New York debut Friday at Webster Hall, The New York Daily news reported.
"It's ridiculous," Os Mutantes member Sergio Baptista said. "It's also fantastic."
The band formed in the '60s and began experimenting with combining and altering different forms of music, ultimately helping to create the Brazilian tropicalia movement.
Os Mutantes broke up in 1972, but its members reunited four months ago for a tribute concert to the movement they helped create and were quickly offered the U.S. performances by American promoters.
The new lineup features a minimum of 10 members, including new singer Zelia Duncan who has taken the place of original member Rita Lee, the Daily News said.
